Yesterday I got one of the dreaded phone calls ....... "I think someone is trying to break into your house!!" I got this phone call from one of my neighbors, but not only that, he jumped into his car, drove to my house and continued to pursue the individuals until the made their way through a schoolyard. Luckily nothing happened .... or did it?!?!

I had taken the security of the neighborhood for granted. Had it not been for one of my neighbors, this entry would be going a different way (Thank You Todd). So the police were called, they looked around, they showed some photos of the would be perpetrators and then they told Todd, "next time let us handle it." I don't want a next time. Let's back up a minute here. The attempt was made at, oh say 10am, the police were called at 10:30am. Since this was a non-emergency Michele called 311 instead of 911 as any good citizen should. The police did not arrive on the scene until 3pm?!?!? How could this be, is our police force so busy that it would take them 5 hours to respond?!?!? Well, some more insight. Again Michele called and being the good citizen dialed 311, however the operator failed to tell her that she needed to request a face to face visit with an officer after the first call ..... huh?!? Let me stop here and say that I am not trying to dog our boys in blue, I have a lot of respect fo them .... I really do. It's the system that seemed to have failed in this instance. OK, so why would anyone be calling if I didn't need the police. So now we still feel violated (although there was no break in) and our faith in the system is in question. Again, if it had not been for the neighbors, this would be going completely different.

Meet the neighbors, Todd (front) and Jackie.
