Something out of Nothing

I remember one time when I was talking with my Dad once.  I asked him, how do YOU know what to take a picture of?  You just know, he said chuckling to himself.  Knowing that I wasn't satisfied with his answer, he waited for the next.  OK, so ..... how do I figure that out?!?!  And what he said next stayed with me for years until I finally realized what he was talking about.  He looked at me and he was really serious, but it wasn't the "stop asking me questions" kinda look, more of the "you're really serious about this" look .... well, more like a piercing stare.  He drew a breathe, got up and started to leave the room.  But before he left, he said, "We get caught up in what's over there and what's over here.  Sometimes the best picture is right under your feet."  And with that he left the room.  I've always believed that there is a thin, yet crooked, line between insanity and genius.  Back then I thought he was a touch of the first, but later realized he was more of the latter than I gave him credit for.  Thanks Dad.  I miss you!
